Swarf vs Excel

One guys got the spreadsheet open.
Everyone else is guessing.

Most shops end up with a jobs excel at some point. Customer, PO, part number, due date, machine, status. Actually a great system. For one person.

Second someone else opens the file you get that popup. Read only, opened by another user. Now you wait, or save a copy and hope you remember to merge it later, or yell across the shop to find out whats going on. Swarf is the same jobs list idea, just live and multi user. Phone, tablet, tv, laptop. No popup.

Excels great. Just not for this.

Nothing against excel. Its the most flexible tool ever made and every small shop has a handful of spreadsheets running things behind the scenes. Quotes, time cards, material lists, whatever. Its fine.

But a spreadsheet is built for one person sitting at a desk. Your lead machinist needs to update a job from the floor? He walks to the office, hopes nobody else has the file open, makes the change, saves, walks back. If he forgets, the sheet is wrong. If two people try at the same time, someone loses their changes.

Swarf is the same jobs list idea. Just live, multi user, and the guys on the floor can update from their phones without walking anywhere. You can still export to excel when you want. We just dont make you run the shop out of it.
